Description
This hotel is run by a couple from Ollantaytambo, Asencios & Julia Flores. Julia is a medicine woman known throughout the valley for her mystical healing treatments. She also teaches internationally. Munay Tika (sacred flower) Rumira is a great retreat for those who are in search of peace in the Sacred Valley. To arrive here you will take a bumpy road from Ollantaytambo, then a windy paved road to Rumira, then a windy, bumpy road to the hotel property (they will arrange transport for you or you can hire a taxi in town).
Overlooking the valley of Rumira, this hotel is set up a bit like its own town, with a variety of bungalows dotting the 10 hectares of land it sits on. In the middle of the property is a large ‘Sala de Ceremonias’ where spiritual ceremonies are held by a variety of groups who rent the space for retreats. Up the hill you will find a terraced seating area where you can relax and contemplate the spirituality of the area. Further up the hill is the main dining hall where meals are cooked and served.
Insider Tips
- Owners Asencios & Julia have made Rumira their home.
- Rooms at the base of the property are smaller than the others.
- If you aren’t already spiritual you may reconsider!
Benefits
- A magical place far from crowds and tour buses. You get a true ‘countryside’ feel by staying here.
- Plenty of space to sit, relax, ponder…
Drawbacks
- Located 2km outside of Ollantaytambo so if you want to get to town you will probably want a taxi (which can be arranged for you by the staff). There are few amenities nearby.
- This is a new property so there are a few kinks to iron out with the service.
Rooms
At the moment there are 8 rooms, but plans are in the works to add several more. The rooms, while basic, have uniquely incorporated the surrounding Inca stonework. In some cases large stones jut right into the building where the walls were built around the rocks to accommodate them, providing interesting décor. Beds are firm and adequate. The bathrooms are a bit small. They are decent, not great, but do feature newer showers.
Food
All meals are served in the dining hall. There is a woodburning oven out front for pizzas to be cooked. Since there are few restaurant options nearby you will likely end up eating here, although a ride to Ollantaytambo is not far.
Children
Children are welcome here.
Rates Double US$25 – 35. Does not include $5 for transportation to / from Ollantaytambo.
